The former railway tracks have been filled and we've created a huge outdoor event space with an adjoining picnic lawn, landscaped garden beds, interpretive design elements celebrating the sites history, a bandstand, kids corner and plenty of space to run, scoot and play!
The Station hosts pop-up markets, festivals, creative workshops, fitness, foodie events, live music and family fun days.

Upcoming site changes
Planning for The Station's exciting long-term use is underway.
The sites heritage buildings are set to be fully restored, enhanced and activated with new tourism and hospitality attractions – and The Station's outdoor spaces will offer new dining options along with the continuation of events such as markets, live music and family friendly activities.
Works are expected to commence in 2027 subject to approvals, requiring periods of closure during construction to ensure safe and efficient delivery of works. In the meantime, temporary activation with pop-up retail and events will continue for the remainder of 2026 as planning progresses.

HCCDC owns and manages The Station. Through the Revitalising Newcastle program, we have delivered significant landscaping and heritage preservation works, and now lead the site's temporary activation program while plans for its long-term use progress.
The Station's temporary activation has enabled community use of the precinct for short-term retail opportunities, pop-up events and recreational activities. Designed to test new ideas and create vibrant experiences, the program has, over the past eight years, provided a valuable platform for local businesses, creatives and event organisers. It has welcomed thousands of visitors to community gatherings and events, becoming a much-loved destination and helping shape the vision for the site's next chapter.
The Station's heritage buildings will soon undergo full restoration and renewal, ensuring the iconic site can continue to be enjoyed by the community for generations to come.
